Students Move Forward at Mid

Journeys begin at Mid Michigan College and lead beyond. With personalized guidance and support to explore options and navigate the college experience, Mid moves students forward.

“Whether they are working toward a career or have plans to transfer, we help students achieve their goals,” shared Beth Binder, Director of Admissions. “Every step of the way, we’re here to encourage and support the success of our students.”

Registration for summer courses at Mid is underway now, and courses begin Monday, May 19.

“Tuition-free options make it easier than ever to get started,” said Binder. “Michigan’s Community College Guarantee and Reconnect scholarships, along with traditional financial aid, are easy to apply for and eliminate nearly all financial barriers.”

The Community College Guarantee (CCG) provides a tuition-free path for in-district students, significant financial assistance for out-of-district students, and an additional $1,000 for students who qualify to cover costs like textbooks and transportation. Recent high school graduates are eligible for the Community College Guarantee and have 18 months to begin their college journey and take advantage of CCG benefits.

Michigan Reconnect covers in-district tuition and fees after financial aid funds have been awarded for in-district and out-of-district students—significantly offsetting the cost of attendance. Michigan Reconnect is available to students 25 years of age and up who do not have a college degree.

“Students aged 21-24 were temporarily eligible for Michigan Reconnect, but had to apply before December 31, 2024,” noted Michelle McNier, Director of Financial Aid. “If students applied by that deadline, they must begin at Mid during the Summer 2025 semester or their Reconnect benefits will expire.”

Financial aid funding is provided by state and federal governments and includes grants, loans, and other specialized types of financial assistance, that may or may not need to be paid back.

To apply for these tuition-free options and financial aid, students must complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov.

“Our team is available to help students complete the FAFSA and answer any questions they might have regarding these options and their requirements,” said McNier. “Michigan Reconnect does require an additional application, and we can help students complete that as well.”

Students also have access to career planning, internet hotspots, transportation vouchers, mental health counseling, the College’s food pantry, and other support services throughout their journey at Mid.

“Life happens, and sometimes it’s tough,” said Amy Campbell, Director of Counseling & Wellness Services. “We’re here for our students and provide or connect them with resources to help them navigate life’s challenges as they pursue their educational goals.”

Whether students are taking a small step or a bold leap, they can pursue their goals, achieve meaningful milestones, and celebrate their wins—in and out of the classroom—at Mid.
