Michigan Reconnect Scholarship

STEP 1 Apply to Mid.

STEP 2 Apply for Michigan Reconnect.

• Complete the Reconnect application online.
• After you apply, if you qualify for Reconnect, you'll receive a confirmation letter from the State and be assigned to a Reconnect Navigator.
• The State of Michigan's Reconnect application will be updated to accept submissions for 21- to 24-year-old students in mid- to late-August. Students aged 25+ can apply now.

STEP 3 Complete the FAFSA.

• The FAFSA is essential to receiving the most types of financial aid for your college education, including Reconnect. Be sure to list Mid's school code 006768 on your FAFSA.

To be eligible for tuition-free community college, you must meet the following qualifications.

• Be at least 21 years old when you apply.
• Be a Michigan resident for at least 1 year (US citizen or eligible noncitizen).
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Have not yet earned an associate or bachelor's degree.
• Complete the FAFSA.

If a student previously applied to Reconnect

• If you applied for and received Reconnect scholarship funds in the past, you are not eligible. 
• If you applied for Reconnect and utilized the scholarship, and Reconnect did not have to cover any of your costs, you are not eligible. 
• If you applied for Reconnect, but did not begin taking courses, you are eligible to apply.

Michigan Reconnect provides free in-district tuition, mandatory fees, and contact hours for accepted and eligible applicants to pursue a Pell-eligible associate degree or skill certificate at any of Michigan's public community colleges.

Reconnect is a last-dollar program, which means that any Pell Grant funds you receive are applied to your tuition and fees bill first, with Reconnect paying what’s not covered by Pell. If you don’t qualify for a Pell Grant, Reconnect will pay the full cost of tuition, mandatory fees, and contact hours.

You’ll have up to four years from your first semester as a scholarship participant to complete an associate degree or Pell-eligible skill certificate, but their are requirements you have to meet to maintain your eligibility. • Continue to be a resident of this state.
• Maintain enrollment in your program of study and earn a minimum of 12 credits towards your program of study, once you’ve begun an academic year.
• Meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP) at your institution or maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA since becoming a Michigan Reconnect participant.
  

A Michigan Reconnect Navigator is a guide who provides free support to help adult students return to school, set career goals, and manage their college journey.
