A new training will soon be offered at Mid Michigan College—Manufacturing Pre-Employment Short-Term Training focuses on an overview of basic tools and processes commonly found in industrial manufacturing facilities and prepares students for entry-level manufacturing careers.

“We’re excited to offer this training along with the Central Michigan Manufacturers Association and local Michigan Works teams to help build a skilled workforce for our manufacturing partners,” said Autumn Matthews, Director of Workforce & Economic Development at Mid.

Students will review safety requirements, machine controls, precision measurement tools, technical drawings, and more. Upon the successful completion of the training, students are awarded a Starrett Precision Measurement Instrument Certification from the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) and credit for two courses in Mid’s Advanced Integrated Manufacturing (AIM) Program.

“Earning the industry-recognized NC3 certification allows students to demonstrate their skills to employers,” shared Matthews. “And the credit toward the AIM program saves students time and money if they decide to return to Mid and advance their skills in the pursuit of an associate degree.”

Students must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and have a foundational understanding of math and reading. No prior manufacturing experience is required.

“We want to encourage anyone interested in a manufacturing career to start here, start at Mid,” noted Matthews. “We have strong connections to local employers, experienced instructors, and state-of-the-art labs where you can learn hands-on.”

Manufacturing Pre-Employment training takes place 8am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday, February 3 through February 14 on Mid’s Harrison Campus.

Training costs may be significantly reduced or completely paid for through MiWorks!. Potential trainees should contact their local MiWorks! to see if they qualify.
