Indigenous Peoples’ Day Event October 12

Mid Michigan College, in partnership with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and Central Michigan University, is honored to invite community members to a special Indigenous Peoples’ Day event 10am - Noon Monday, October 12, in the Community Room on Mid’s Mt. Pleasant Campus. This event is free and open to the public.

This event honors the cultural traditions, history, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, and serves as a time to uplift Native voices, celebrate cultural heritage, and reaffirm a commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future.

• 10am | Opening– Blue House Singers and Drum Circle
• 10:10am | Welcome– Scott Mertes, President of Mid Michigan College; Neil MacKinnon, President of Central Michigan University; Representatives of the Tribal Council of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe
• 10:30 | Keynote Address Focused on Indigenous Song & Dance
  • This year we are taking a deep dive into song and dance, including men’s and women’s traditional dances, men’s grass and fancy feather, and women’s jingle dress and fancy shawl. Performances coordinated by The Ziibiwing Center.
• 11am | Indigenous Food Sampling by Indigenous Chef Sam Anglin
• 12pm | Closing– Blue House Singers and Drum Circle
