Welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers use hand-held or remotely controlled equipment to join, repair, or cut metal parts and products. Mid offer a state-of-the-art welding lab on each of the main campuses with current technology and hands-on learning opportunities.
Common career tasks include studying blueprints, sketches, and specifications, calculating the dimensions of parts to be welded, inspecting structures or materials to be welded, igniting torches or starting power supplies, monitoring the welding process to avoid overheating, and maintaining equipment and machinery.

This Welding Pre-Apprentice (CTE) Pathway is designed specifically for high school students. Students complete one course each semester and graduate high school able to start an apprenticeship and demonstrate to potential employers that they are ready to learn.

Welding Pre-Apprenticeship Certificates are now available and allow you to build basic skills before entering an official apprenticeship at a local employer. The Pre-Apprentice Certificate Pathway can be customized for students ready to attend college and for those currently in high school.

Mid's welding students contribute to local projects like the Mackinac Bridge scale model at the Clare MDOT Welcome Center, and the multiple mascot sculptures that now appear in Harrison and Gladwin, with Beaverton planned for the Fall 2020 semester.
