Emergency Assistance Application

The Mid Michigan College Foundation's Student Emergency Assistance Fund provides one-time grants to help students cover the costs of unexpected emergency needs that would otherwise prevent students from being able to complete their coursework at Mid.

This funding is made available through donations from community members, local businesses, Mid staff, faculty, and alumni.

  • Unexpected Emergency Expenses are expenses incurred beyond your control for which there was no opportunity to prepare in advance.
    • Examples of Unexpected Emergency Expenses that can be considered for emergency funding include

      • Major medical emergency resulting in an unexpected trip to the hospital resulting in treatment or surgery.

      • Sudden passing of an immediate family member resulting in a need to travel and an unexpected gas expense.

      • Unexpected disability preventing you from working or being able to cover daily living expenses such as paralysis or neurological implications. Not preexisting.

      • Natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, or floods which directly impact you.

      • An auto accident resulting in injury or inability to attend your courses.

    • Examples NOT considered Unexpected Emergency Expenses. This is not a full list but the most common submissions we receive and cannot approve.

      • Overdue electric/utility bills

      • Rent payments current or past due/eviction notices

      • Internet bills

    • The following types of expenses can be covered with emergency funding.

      • Transportation/Gas (within certain limits)

      • Food (only available through state funding)

      • Course materials and equipment

Mid recently obtained grant funding through the state of Michigan to expand our ability to offer emergency assistance. This additional funding has allowed us to help more students until the funds are fully utilized.

If your situation meets the definition of unexpected emergency expenses listed above, complete the application and submit documentation that supports your request. Not providing sufficient documentation can delay funding.
