Women’s Health Summit Gets to the Heart of the Matter

Heart health isn't just about what happens in your heart. How you sleep, move, eat, manage stress, and care for your mental well-being can all play a role, too.

Those connections are at the center of this year’s Women’s Health Summit: The Heart of the Matter, hosted by Mid Michigan College on Monday, October 19, at the College’s Mt. Pleasant Campus.

The annual event gives women an opportunity to hear from healthcare professionals, ask questions, and connect with health and wellness resources—all in one afternoon. The event is free; an RSVP is required only for the luncheon and expert panel.

This year’s panel brings together three MyMichigan Health professionals who will explore different pieces of the bigger health picture, including mental well-being, sleep, and lifestyle.

  • Megan Manierski, H.S.P., L.P., Psy.D., a licensed psychologist and member of MyMichigan Health’s sports medicine team, will share insights into mental skills, emotional resilience, and how mental well-being can influence how we function and feel.
  • Kathryn Esch, MSN, FNP-C, a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in sleep medicine, will shine a light on something many people sacrifice when life gets busy: sleep. She’ll discuss why quality sleep matters and how sleep health fits into overall wellness.
  • Madhura Mansabdar, MD, Medical Director and Chief Wellness Officer at MyMichigan Health, will bring a lifestyle medicine perspective to the conversation, looking at how everyday habits—including nutrition and physical activity—can contribute to long-term health.

Together, the panelists will explore how physical activity, nutrition, sleep, and mental wellness work together to influence cardiovascular health and overall well-being. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session, giving attendees an opportunity to ask the experts what they really want to know.

The luncheon and panel run from 11:30am–1:30pm at the Mt. Pleasant Campus Community Room (CLAB 186/187). An RSVP is required for this session.

The afternoon then opens up to everyone with a free community health fair from 1:45pm–3:45pm.
Visitors can talk with local vendors, learn from Mid Michigan College Nursing and Physical Therapist Assistant students, and participate in wellness activities and basic health checks.

The health fair will also offer the following services.

  • Vaccinations — Bring your insurance card; a fee may apply for some vaccination services.
  • Car Seat Safety Checks — Have your car seat checked in the designated area in the north parking lot.
  • Bone Marrow Registry — Complete a simple cheek swab to join the national registry and potentially help save lives.

Whether someone comes for the expert conversation, stops by the health fair, or does both, the summit is designed to make health information feel useful, approachable, and connected to everyday life.

The Women’s Health Summit is sponsored by Mid Michigan College, MyMichigan Health, Central Michigan District Health Department, Central Michigan University College of Medicine, and Michigan Area Health Education Center.
