Bryant Named Assistant Athletic Director

Mid Michigan College has announced Makenna Bryant as its new Assistant Athletic Director, effective September 8, 2026. Bryant joins the Laker Athletics administrative leadership team with goals to support continued growth and strengthen the overall student-athlete experience.

Bryant brings experience in athletic administration, communications, event operations, and student-athlete services. Through her work with the Mid Michigan College Athletics Department, she has gained hands-on experience with the day-to-day operations of a growing collegiate athletics program while developing a strong understanding of its coaches, student-athletes, programs, and administrative systems.

In her new role, Bryant will assist with student-athlete services and eligibility, athletic communications, website management, game and event operations, facility operations, and department initiatives, while working closely with coaches, campus departments, and external partners.

“We are very excited to have Kenna join our growing athletic department here at Mid,” said Danny Smith, Athletic Director. “Her commitment to the student-athlete is evident, and we look forward to utilizing her skill set in athletic administration to implement next-level experiences for our greater Mid campus and community.”

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Mid Michigan College as Assistant Athletic Director and look forward to building on an already solid athletics offering,” Bryant said.

Bryant earned her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Davenport University, where she competed as a Division II women’s basketball student-athlete from 2020-2024. During her four years at Davenport, she competed in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team each season.

Bryant is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Sport Administration at Central Michigan University. Her experience as a collegiate student-athlete has also shaped her approach to working with today’s student-athletes.

“Being a student-athlete taught me a great deal about accountability, leadership, time management, and the importance of having a strong support system,” Bryant said. “Those experiences continue to influence how I approach my work in athletics, and I want to help create an environment where student-athletes can be successful both academically and athletically.”

Bryant’s appointment comes during an exciting period of growth for Mid Michigan College Laker Athletics, including the development of the new Morey Event Center. The facility provides expanded opportunities for competition, practices, camps, community events, and more.

"Athletics has the ability to be a tremendous part of the overall college experience,” Bryant said. “I want to help ensure our student-athletes have the resources and support they need while also creating opportunities for athletics to positively impact the entire Mid Michigan community.”

Mid Michigan College competes in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) against community colleges throughout the state for conference, regional/district, and state championships. The Lakers also compete nationally through the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Mid currently offers men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s bowling, women’s bowling, baseball, softball, women’s volleyball, and co-ed clay target shooting.
