Mid Michigan College Names Chad Reed Head Softball Coach
Mid Michigan College is excited to announce the promotion of Chad Reed (Shepherd) to Head Softball Coach, following three seasons as an Assistant Coach with Laker Softball.
Reed has been an integral part of the team's continued growth and success since joining the coaching staff. During his time as an assistant, he committed to supporting student-athletes' development both on and off the field while building a competitive, positive team culture.
“Chad’s strong work ethic and commitment to student-athlete success made him the natural choice to lead Laker Softball into the future,” shared Danny Smith, Athletic Director.
Prior to joining Mid Michigan College, Reed built an extensive coaching resume spanning youth, middle school, and travel softball. He served as Head Coach of the Jets travel softball organization from 2018-2022, following six seasons as an Assistant Coach. Reed also coached Shepherd Middle School Softball for four years in both head and assistant roles, managing practices, scheduling games, and preparing athletes for competition while emphasizing teamwork and fundamentals.
“All of my experiences have prepared me to lead this team,” said Reed.
In addition to his softball experience, Reed has coached youth football and youth wrestling for several years and spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Shepherd High School wrestling program.
“I’m dedicated to mentoring young athletes and helping them achieve success both in athletics and in life,” noted Reed. “I’m excited for the opportunity to continue working with Mid’s student-athletes and to shape the future of Laker Softball.”
Away from coaching, Reed has built a career rooted in leadership, teamwork, and service to his community. His professional background includes supervisory and management responsibilities, while he remains actively involved in community service and local youth athletics.
Mid Michigan College competes in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) against community colleges throughout the state for conference, regional/district, and state championships. The Lakers also compete nationally through the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Mid currently offers men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s bowling, women’s bowling, baseball, softball, women’s volleyball, and co-ed clay target shooting.
