Historic Season for Mid Michigan College Athletics

Mid Michigan College Athletics is celebrating a milestone year as the Lakers captured conference championships, earned national tournament berths, and set records during an extraordinary winter season. Both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams secured spots in the NJCAA Division II Basketball Championships, while the Women’s Bowling team achieved the highest national finish in Mid Michigan College history.

Women’s Basketball Heads to Nationals

The Laker Women’s Basketball team captured the MCCAA Northern Conference Championship, finishing a perfect 14–0 in conference play and 27–4 overall. The Lakers continued their dominant season by winning the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Tournament, defeating St. Clair County Community College 100–72 in the championship game.

The victory secured the team a berth in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship—their sixth overall and fourth consecutive trip to the tournament.

Several Lakers earned postseason recognition.

  • Delaney Seaman – Tournament MVP
  • Alexus Dunn & Gracie Mellinger – All-Tournament Team
  • Tanner Smith – District Coach of the Year

“These student-athletes have put in an incredible amount of work all season,” said Head Coach Tanner Smith. “Their focus, teamwork, and determination have carried them through every challenge. We’re excited for the opportunity to represent Mid Michigan College on the national stage.”

Men’s Basketball Also Advances to Nationals

The Laker Men’s Basketball team matched the women’s success with a 13–1 MCCAA Northern Conference record and a 25–6 overall record, earning the conference championship.

Mid Michigan went on to win the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Tournament, defeating St. Clair County Community College 79–73 to secure a berth in the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship. This is the team’s first-ever trip to the national stage.

Tournament honors included the following.

  • Zack Parks – Tournament MVP
  • Amonti Greene & Vynce Overshown – All-Tournament Team
  • Kaleb House – District Coach of the Year

“Our players have shown resilience and belief in one another all year,” said Head Coach Kaleb House. “Winning the conference and district titles is a testament to their commitment and the culture they’ve built together.”

Women’s Bowling Achieves Historic Finish

The Women’s Bowling team delivered one of the strongest seasons in Mid Michigan College history, finishing 4th in the nation—the highest finish ever for the team. The Lakers also captured the Region XII Championship

Paige Vallad set the stage for the postseason, earning Region XII All-Events Champion and Region XII Singles Champion honors. Vallad, Lilly Massaway, and Mya Jarvis were named to the Region XII All-Region Team, and Head Coach Jason Robinson was named Region XII Coach of the Year.

At the National Tournament, Jarvis finished 5th overall in All-Events. The Lakers also posted impressive doubles performances, with Aspen Davy and Vallad winning the doubles championship, Anyia Sanford and Autumn View finishing second, and Jarvis and Massaway finishing sixth.

The team’s historic finish was powered by contributions from the entire lineup. Several Lakers also earned postseason recognition, with Davy, Massaway, Vallad, and View named to the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-Conference Team, and Davy, Vallad, and View earning All-Freshman Team honors.

“This group set a new standard for our program,” Robinson said. “Their dedication, competitive spirit, and support for each other helped produce a truly historic season.”

Men’s Bowling Standout Performance

At Nationals, the Men’s Bowling team was led by Evan Daly, who finished 1st in All-Events among 137 competitors, earning recognition as the top bowler in the nation. Daly also finished 2nd in singles, followed by Ty Olsen in 9th. A strong performance in the doubles competition from Daly and Olsen netted them a 10th-place finish.

Evan Daly was also named to the Region XII All-Region Team, and received the honor of being named as a NJCAA Region 12 All-American, the first Men’s Bowling All-American in Mid Michigan College history.

Throughout the season, Daly was joined by teammates Ty Olsen, Mason Hopkins, Mason Temple, and Trey Craige, who delivered strong performances and contributed to the Lakers’ regional and national tournament appearances.

Softball Coaching Milestone

Mid Michigan College Softball also celebrated a major milestone this season as Greg Welch, the team’s Head Coach reached 100 career wins, marking another significant achievement for Laker Athletics.

“These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Laker community,” said Danny Smith, Mid Michigan College Athletic Director. “We’re proud to see our teams competing and succeeding at the highest levels.”

Mid Michigan College competes in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Mid currently fields teams in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s bowling, women’s bowling, baseball, softball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, and co-ed clay target shooting.
