The 23rd annual A Northern Tradition, sponsored by Jay’s Sporting Goods, invites guests to enjoy an evening that captures the spirit of Up North—right inside one of Michigan’s most iconic outdoor destinations. The event takes place 5pm–8pm Sunday, April 12, at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare.
For one night only, Jay’s will be closed to the public and open exclusively to ticket holders, giving guests a rare opportunity to explore the store after hours while supporting Mid Michigan College students.
Guests can stroll the aisles, sample offerings from local restaurants, watch live outdoor demonstrations, and learn about Mid Michigan College programs, including outdoors-related pathways. A silent auction will run throughout the evening, offering unique items and experiences.

Over the past 20 years, A Northern Tradition has raised more than $2 million to benefit students at Mid Michigan College. Proceeds support academic programs, facilities, and student services that help students build skills for today’s careers.
“We’re grateful for the continued support from our community,” said Alexa Carey, Executive Director of the Mid Foundation. “Jay’s is a place many people connect with going Up North, and A Northern Tradition captures that feeling as it brings people together for a meaningful cause. We’re especially thankful to Jay’s Sporting Goods for their long-standing partnership.”
Tickets are $50 and include a $35 gift certificate to Jay’s Sporting Goods, a commemorative outdoor-themed print by featured artist Julie Tyslickly, and entry into a drawing for a $1,000 Jay’s Sporting Goods gift certificate.
“After 23 years, this event has truly become a tradition,” Carey added. “We’re excited to welcome guests for another memorable night that celebrates community, the outdoors, and opportunity for our students.”
This event has helped the Mid Foundation provide high-impact scholarships for at-risk students, launch new initiatives on campus, and upgrade facilities that promote student success.
Event sponsors also enjoy great perks, including exclusive access to the Northern Legacy Reception, special recognition, and event tickets.
