"Great Blue" (Watercolor & Ink on Paper)
by Cheryl Meyer
Cheryl Meyer grew up near the Saginaw Bay and spent her childhood exploring different natural areas to observe local wildlife, especially birds and snakes. "Nature and a family that embraced creativity raised me."
Meyer studied fine arts and creative writing at Central Michigan University and has long practiced writing and painting throughout her life. She has recently become a watercolor and creative writing instructor for Art Reach in Mt. Pleasant and continues as an Adjunct Art Instructor at both Mid Michigan College and Montcalm Community College.
Meyer's first show, "Paper Trails & Leaves", was held at Art Reach in 2022 featuring a collection of her watercolor, mixed media, and gourd art. A second show in 2024, "Natural Transitions", allowed Meyer to partner with a local colored pencil artist to capture her experiences as a trail runner, birder, and lover of the Great Lakes.
"I live on a small lake and have the opportunity to watch herons and egrets often, and this year, the Great Blue Herons were especially active along the shore hunting and even showing up on my game camera! This served as my inspiration for "Great Blue", I hope you enjoy it!"
