
Mid Michigan College, in partnership with the Mid Michigan Manufacturers Association (M3A), proudly celebrated a major milestone on Tuesday, November 18, hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Morey Technical Education Center on the Mt. Pleasant Campus. The event marked one year since the project’s groundbreaking and signified an exciting new chapter for the College’s manufacturing and skilled trades programs.
The renovation delivers a significant upgrade to the region’s technical training capacity, featuring a fully modernized Advanced Manufacturing and Skilled Trades Lab and an expanded Welding Lab. These state-of-the-art facilities will empower students with the hands-on skills, advanced equipment, and industry-aligned training needed to thrive in high-demand careers–strengthening mid-Michigan’s workforce pipeline for years to come.
Attendees enjoyed guided tours, refreshments, and opportunities to explore the upgraded learning environments that will soon welcome students, employers, and community partners. The energy throughout the event reflected the widespread excitement and momentum surrounding the project.
Alexa Carey, Executive Director of the Mid Michigan College Foundation, opened the celebration by welcoming guests and highlighting the profound impact this renovation will have on students and local employers. Mid Michigan College President Tim Hood spoke to the College’s long-term vision for technical education and expressed deep appreciation for the State of Michigan and the many donors whose support made the project possible.
Harry Leaver, outgoing President of the Central Michigan Manufacturers Association, emphasized the powerful collaboration between industry and education, noting that the renovated facilities represent a bold step forward in preparing graduates for success. State Representatives Jerry Neyer and Tom Kunse praised the project as a standout example of how higher education institutions can remain agile, innovative, and responsive to evolving workforce needs.
Major funding partners recognized during the ceremony included the State of Michigan, Consumers Energy Foundation, Advanced Technology Partners, Rite-Hite, Jan Strickler, and Aircraft Precision Products.
The ribbon cutting was conducted by President Tim Hood; Trustee Lois Pittsley; Harry Leaver; Shawn Troy; Representative Tom Kunse; Representative Jerry Neyer; and Bill Henderson, symbolizing the shared commitment of leaders across education, government, and industry.
This renovation is a cornerstone of Mid Michigan College’s Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow capital campaign—a comprehensive effort focused on expanding opportunities, enhancing student experiences, and investing in facilities that power the region’s future.
