Mid Michigan College is proud to announce that it has been officially certified as a Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly School by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA)—the highest honor awarded through the State of Michigan’s Veteran-Friendly Schools (VFS) Program.
This elite designation recognizes institutions that demonstrate exceptional commitment to supporting veterans, service members, and military-connected learners through comprehensive services, innovative programming, and a campus culture of respect and inclusion.
Established in 2015, the VFS Program awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze-level status to academic institutions that meet rigorous criteria related to veteran-centric programming and student support. Gold-Level certification is reserved for the institutions that set the statewide standard for excellence—those that demonstrate sustained dedication to recruitment, academic and personal support, career readiness, and long-term success for military-affiliated students.
“Our deep commitment to veterans is reflected in our personalized approach to student support,” noted Kati Sellers, Director of Mentoring. “After applying to the College, each military-connected student has a dedicated team at their service who are trained to assist with financial aid, course registration, and federal and state military education benefits.”
This one-on-one guidance ensures that students receive proactive, individualized support from the moment they enroll through graduation.
To meet the diverse goals of its veteran and military-connected students, the College offers
- Over 100 programs and pathways, including associate degrees, certificates, and training credentials ranging from 2 semesters to 2 years.
- Transfer-focused pathways that help students seamlessly transition into bachelor’s degree programs while saving an average of $17,000.
- Career-ready programs that reflect industry standards and often include opportunities to earn professional certifications.
- Flexible learning options, with 65 programs and pathways available 50% or more online, and multiple course delivery methods including on-campus, online, hybrid, real-time virtual, and HyFlex courses.
Mid’s commitment extends beyond academics. The College operates Veteran Resource Centers on both its Harrison and Mt. Pleasant campuses. These centers were designed in direct response to student feedback and provide welcoming spaces equipped with CAC-enabled computers, large-screen TVs, gaming consoles, and quiet study areas. They serve as community hubs where veterans and military-connected students can connect with peers and access key resources.
