On Tuesday, Mid Michigan College officially kicked off its Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow campaign and broke ground on a soon-to-be-constructed event center on the Mt. Pleasant Campus.

“We’re excited about what’s to come and building the next chapter of Mid’s story,” shared Mid President Tim Hood. “This campaign highlights our partners in progress and that, together, we’re changing lives, not someday, not later, but right now.”

The campaign focuses on making key updates to the Morey Technical Education Center on the Mt. Pleasant Campus and the Welding Lab on the Harrison Campus—a decisive investment in the future of skilled trades and in improving access to career-ready training across the region.

The College’s health science labs will also undergo key upgrades, including the addition of state-of-the-art simulation equipment that mirrors real-world healthcare settings and situations.

Students and visitors will see campus spaces transformed into vibrant, welcoming environments that foster a strong sense of belonging at both locations.

“The event center is a highlight of the campaign and will serve as the permanent home for Mid’s nationally ranked men’s and women’s basketball teams and Laker Athletics as a whole,” explained Matt Miller, Vice President of Student Services & Advancement. “Commencement will also take place here, and it will be a hub for engaging with students and connecting with the community.”

The groundbreaking ceremony welcomed donors, community members, Mid team members, and students to celebrate the official first shovels of dirt being turned.

“We couldn’t begin to envision these goals without the meaningful connections we’ve built throughout the communities we serve,” noted Jane Zdrojewski, Chair of Mid’s Board of Trustees. “From Lon Morey and the Morey Foundation to Isabella Bank and fellow Trustee Karen Moore, the generosity of our community is a catalyst for transformation.”

Jerome Schwind of Isabella Bank, Michael Huenemann of Isabella Bank & Campaign Co-Chair, and Wendy Oswald of C&R Electric & Campaign Co-Chair shared their gratitude and optimism, adding to the day’s significance.

“Hard hats were donned and shovels hit the dirt,” shared Alexa Carey, Executive Director of the Mid Foundation. “The day perfectly illustrated that Mid doesn’t move forward because of one person; it moves forward because we all share a belief in opportunity, access, and possibility.”
