Mid, in partnership with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, hosted an event this past October honoring indigenous peoples and their cultures. The event featured several special guests, leaders of several Michigan Tribes, as well as federal, state, and local representatives. “We were happy to see so many community members, educators, and students take advantage of this opportunity to connect with leaders and members of indigenous cultures,” noted Donna Sinclair, Mid Michigan College instructor and event coordinator.

The Mid Foundation allocated funds to help students with unexpected emergency costs. To date, over $24,920.24 has been distributed to over 94 students who have encountered vehicle breakdowns, utility shutoffs, home repairs, etc. “This fund has proven to be very meaningful to students who are grateful to be seen, heard, and helped,” shared Matt Miller, Vice President of Student Services and the Mid Foundation.

Upon the completion of educational requirements, nursing students must successfully pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to obtain their nursing license. Mid’s nursing students have consistently achieved high pass rates, but recent years were exceptional. In 2020, Mid’s Mt. Pleasant nursing students achieved the first 100% NCLEX pass rate for their cohort, and just one year later in 2021, Harrison nursing students also achieved this milestone.
Futures for Frontliners and Michigan Reconnect are both scholarship programs launched by the State of Michigan to help reduce financial barriers and increase access to higher education for frontline workers and students over the age of 25 without an associate or bachelor’s degree, respectively. “It’s been an uplifting experience to see many students returning to a degree path or embarking on a new one with the help of these programs,” said Kati Sellers, Director of Mentoring at Mid.
