From marching at Ford Field as a high school drum major to mastering molecular biology, Meradith Anderson is a driven and dedicated student with a dream—and Mid Michigan College is helping her achieve her goals.

A proud Gladwin native, Meradith is tackling a rigorous schedule of pre-med courses at Mid, including Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Physics, and more, all with one goal in mind—becoming a human anatomy and physiology professor and inspiring students on their path to a healthcare career.

Meradith’s path hasn’t been without challenges. Balancing 18 credit hours, a part-time job, leadership in her church’s young adult group, and a relationship—all while aligning her courses with the Michigan Transfer Agreement, has required grit, discipline, and an unwavering belief in her calling. “It was one of the most challenging moments of my life,” she said. “But knowing God gave me a purpose, and that these challenges are only temporary, kept me going.”

Mid Michigan College has been more than a stepping stone for Meradith. It’s been a launchpad. “Everyone at Mid has been so supportive,” she said. “They helped me plan my future, ensured my courses would transfer, and have been there for every step of the way.”

One standout influence has been Dr. Deborah Claypool, an instructor who has become both a mentor and friend. “She’s always offering advice, sharing what she wished she had done differently, and encouraging me to pursue my goals. She even inspired me to help my fellow students who may be struggling and need a study partner.”

Meradith’s story is also shaped by her deep love for community, music, and ministry. In high school, she played flute for six years and led the Gladwin band as drum major. She also volunteered with the National Honor Society and led worship at her church. At Mid, she appreciates the flexible options that allow her to build a schedule that fits her life, and the variety of study spaces—whether she needs a quiet nook or a collaborative setting.

To students considering community college, Meradith has a message—“Starting at Mid, you save money, you save time, and you connect with instructors who truly care.”

As she prepares to transfer and pursue her bachelor’s degree, Meradith knows her time at Mid has laid a rock-solid foundation. “Mid has opened doors, shaped my future, and helped me gain confidence in my calling. I’ll graduate with my associate degree and still have connections with the people who helped me get here.”
