Xavier Hoppe, a senior at Shepherd High School, is proactively shaping his future by taking advantage of the dual enrollment opportunities at Mid Michigan College. Dual enrollment gives K-12 students the opportunity to earn college credit during high school. By the time he graduates from high school, Xavier will have earned approximately 30 college credits–an impressive achievement that is setting him up for success in his academic and professional journey.

While Xavier may not have always been the most outgoing individual, his perspective began to shift after enrolling in a leadership course at his high school. That experience sparked a new wave of ambition and helped him realize the importance of taking charge of his future. Motivated by a desire to grow, he decided to pursue his education through dual enrollment at Mid Michigan College. “What I love most about Mid is the convenience. I’ve been able to take most of my college courses right at my high school, staying in a familiar environment while earning valuable college credits. This approach has made the experience both stress-free and enjoyable,” Xavier shared.

Dual enrollment at Mid Michigan College has not only provided Xavier with an early start on his education but has also been a smart financial choice. School districts often cover tuition and fees for dual enrolled students, alleviating any financial barriers and allowing students to focus on their studies and academic goals.

The support Xavier receives from Mid has also played a crucial role in his success. He greatly values the one-on-one attention from his instructors, finding it essential to his academic progress. Xavier has had the opportunity to dive into rigorous subjects such as Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry, further fueling his passion for learning.

Looking ahead, Xavier is excited about his plans to pursue a future in architecture and photography. “What I hope to accomplish after leaving Mid is to leverage the experience and credits I’ve earned here to smoothly transition into full-time studies at Michigan State University,” he said. “The jump start I’ve gotten has positioned me for success, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my academic journey.”
