Mid Michigan College proudly marks 60 years of providing high-quality education, fostering student success, and making a lasting impact on the region.
Founded in 1965, Mid was officially recommended and approved for formation by a Citizens Advisory Council and the Michigan Department of Public Instruction. What started as a vision for accessible education has grown into a thriving institution that has transformed thousands of lives.
“As we look back at that pivotal moment, it is astounding what students have achieved because of the opportunities available here at Mid,” said Tim Hood, President of Mid Michigan College. “Over 60 years of students believing in themselves and working hard for brighter futures—it’s truly inspiring!”
Mid’s journey began in 1968, when its first courses were offered in temporary facilities in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant. By 1969, courses moved to Mid’s current Harrison Campus, and instruction continued in the Mt. Pleasant area. Since then, the College has continually evolved to meet the needs of students, communities, and local employers.
Key Milestones
“Mid has always been committed to investing in its campuses and local communities,” shared Hood. “As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reflecting on our journey while actively shaping the future.”
Since its founding, Mid has remained dedicated to accessible, high-quality education, continually adapting to serve its students.
“This anniversary is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners,” noted Hood. “Together, we’ve built a legacy of learning and opportunity, and we remain committed to inspiring and empowering learners of all ages for generations to come.”
