Mid Michigan College proudly marks 60 years of providing high-quality education, fostering student success, and making a lasting impact on the region.
Founded in 1965, Mid was officially recommended and approved for formation by a Citizens Advisory Council and the Michigan Department of Public Instruction. What started as a vision for accessible education has grown into a thriving institution that has transformed thousands of lives.
“As we look back at that pivotal moment, it is astounding what students have achieved because of the opportunities available here at Mid,” said Tim Hood, President of Mid Michigan College. “Over 60 years of students believing in themselves and working hard for brighter futures—it’s truly inspiring!”
Mid’s journey began in 1968, when its first courses were offered in temporary facilities in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant. By 1969, courses moved to Mid’s current Harrison Campus, and instruction continued in the Mt. Pleasant area. Since then, the College has continually evolved to meet the needs of students, communities, and local employers.
Key Milestones
- 1972 – 1983 | Harrison Campus established and expanded including service and support spaces for students, and Health, Automotive, and Technical Education Centers
- 1993 – 1994 | Mid’s Mt. Pleasant Campus established
- 1999 – 2004 | Harrison Campus Technical Education and service area updates
- 2008 - 2014 | New Mt. Pleasant Campus constructed and expanded
- 2015 | Launch of the Morey Technical Education Center in Mt. Pleasant
- 2018 – 2020 | Comprehensive Harrison Campus renovation and Poet Family Outdoor Education Center opened
- 2025 – Forward | Morey Technical Education Center renovation completed and a new Campus Master Plan unveiled, including updates to student spaces, nursing labs, signage, and the construction of a new Event Center in Mt. Pleasant

Since its founding, Mid has remained dedicated to accessible, high-quality education, continually adapting to serve its students.
