As student-athletes at the college level step onto the field of play, whether that be a court, starting line, lane, diamond, or field, they represent more than just competitive sport. They represent the opportunity to continue their athletic pursuits beyond high school, an opportunity that many are denied. And they also represent whole people who are pursuing not just wins, rebounds, and strike outs, but also GPAs, degrees, and graduation honors.
Mid’s student-athletes are no different.
“Our student-athletes inspire us day in and day out with their work ethics and dedication to the craft of sport and academics,” shared Matt Miller, Vice President of Student Services & Advancement at Mid Michigan College.
In order to tackle their wide-ranging goals, student-athletes need additional support, often in the form of scholarships.
“The Laker Athletics Golf Classic aims to raise funds for student-athlete scholarships,” shared Miller. “These funds are instrumental in providing opportunity and access for our students.”
The Laker Athletics Golf Classic takes place at Snow Snake in Harrison on August 16 with registration beginning at 8am and a shotgun start at 9am.
Supporters can become sponsors at varying levels with respective benefits or register a foursome which includes a light breakfast, coffee, boxed lunch, heavy appetizers at the 19th hole, two drink tickets, a sleeve of balls, and golf.
Additional opportunities for fun at the event include a Blue Birdie Pass, raffles, and 50/50.
“We want to encourage everyone to join us at Snow Snake on August 16,” said Courtney Silverthorn, Director of Development at Mid. “This is a great opportunity to support Laker Athletics, meet the student-athletes, compete for prizes, and enjoy a beautiful day on the golf course!”
