Veteran Resource Centers

Mid's Veteran Resource Centers were inspired by you! Each of our main campus locations, in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant, features a dedicated space for veterans and military-connected students to gather as a group and connect to available resources. Each center features several computers with CAC card readers, lounges with big-screen TVs and gaming consoles, and quiet study spaces.

Involvement & Connections

Mid’s chapter of Student Veterans of America provides you with a network of support and opportunities to engage in activities outside of the classroom. Through SVA, Mid students have gone on charter fishing trips, volunteered and served in surrounding communities, and formed deep and lasting bonds with their fellow service members.

The SVA works to empower veterans to be informed consumers of higher education and make the most of the transition to civilian life.

At the heart of Mid’s student-led chapter, and in alignment with the national organization’s vision, this group “empowers veterans to be informed consumers of higher education and make the most of the transition to civilian life.” The national organization provides veteran scholarships and training opportunities to support academic growth and degree attainment.

VA Documentation

Apply for your Letter of Eligibility for VA Educational Benefits at the Veterans Online Application Website. It is important that you retain a copy for your records.

When education benefits are approved, the VA mails you a certificate of eligibility. This takes approximately 6-8 weeks. This certificate is issued only once and indicates the number of months you are eligible for benefits. A copy of this notification must be provided to Mid's Financial Aid team.

To collect your educational benefits, you must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Upon completion of verification of enrollment, courses are certified and sent electronically to the VA Office. Afterwards, you need to verify enrollment monthly.

You may need to request the following documents as well.

• DD214 (Military Service Records)
• Military Transcripts

Apply for Federal Financial Aid

Beyond veterans benefits, you may be eligible for other forms of federal financial aid. If you haven't yet, you should begin this process. It takes a minimum of a few weeks to process financial aid for new students.

File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online to determine your eligibility for grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study.

Be sure that you add Mid's school code [ 006768 ] to your FAFSA form.

Add myMid to your phone’s home screen for easy access to useful tools and important updates. Access Self-Service, campus events, your financial aid, schedule, grades, course cancellation notifications, and more.

It is vital that you check your Mid Mich Email. We will begin sending you important information about your financial aid and next steps immediately. Visit MyMid, click Account Setup, and follow the prompts. To complete this process you must have a non-Mid Mich email or personal email on record with the College. You likely provided this email on your Admissions Application. If you can’t recall or no longer have access to that email, contact your Mid Mentor for assistance.

If you've graduated from high school within three years, send us your high school transcripts and standardized test scores. If you've attended other colleges, have your college transcripts sent to us as well. 

How to send us your transcripts

Send them electronically via Parchment. Visit parchment.com and request that an electronic version be sent to Mid Michigan College. It's fast, easy, and secure. And if you're still in high school, it's free. If you've graduated, it's only $3.25.

How to send us your SAT/ACT scores

When you take the SAT/ACT, you can indicate Mid as a recipient school. If you have already taken the SAT/ACT, you can deliver your score in person, or via email, mail, or fax. Use the contact information listed above.

You can also sign in to your College Board account and request that a copy of your score be sent to Mid electronically. For more information, visit College Board.

Complete additional placement testing (if necessary)

Appropriate placement in courses promotes your success and allows us to assist you in selecting courses that align with your current skill levels. If you do not have access to transcripts or test scores, you may need to do additional placement testing. Your Mid Mentor can help you determine what you need to submit or what testing needs to be completed.

Students called to active duty during a term in which they are receiving VA Educational Benefits must notify their Certifying Official and provide a copy of their orders.

The Certifying Official will report the date of their withdrawal from school to the VA and indicate the reason as "Called to Active Duty".

Eligibility for VA education benefits will be held in abeyance until the veteran's return to school. In other words, the remaining months of entitlement will be available to the veteran when he or she re-enrolls as a student.

For VA purposes, the drop period is a reasonable time at the beginning of a term officially designated by the school for dropping courses providing it does not exceed 30 days from the first day of the term.

If you drop a course or stop attending, notify Mid's Certifying Official as soon as possible. You may be asked by the VA for repayment if an overpayment occurs.

The VA will not pay for courses in which you receive no credit (NC) grades. The VA may ask you for repayment for these courses.

Punitive Grades are used in determining a student's progress toward completion of graduation requirements and are a factor in computing grade point averages. Punitive grades include A, A-. B+,B,B-,C+,C,C-,D+,D,D-.

Non-Punitive Grades exclude the course from any consideration in determining progress toward fulfilling graduation requirements. Students may be charged with an overpayment for courses in which a non-punitive grade is received. Non-punitive grades include I, NC, W.

Failing Grades The Certifying Official is required to contact the instructor of any course in which a failing grade was received. If the instructor can verify that the final exam was taken, no repayment to the VA will be expected. If the final exam was not taken, the VA may require repayment of benefits retroactive to the first day of the course.

Incomplete and Deferred Grades (I) Incomplete and deferred grades must be removed and a regular grade received for that course(s) within one calendar year from the date of receipt. Incomplete and deferred grades are not counted in determining a student's enrollment status for certification of eligibility for future enrollments. Incomplete and deferred grades are reported to the VA which can lead to an overpayment situation at the end of the semester.

Courses that are failed or for which the grade does not meet the minimum requirements for graduation may be certified with the VA if they are repeated.

Courses that are successfully completed may not be certified with the VA if they are repeated.

The VA will not credit a course toward your enrollment status if the final grade is a "W". Withdrawal grades will be reported to the VA which can lead to an overpayment situation at the end of the semester.

All students receiving VA educational benefits are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as published in the College Catalog under Academic Probation and Dismissal.
