How Do I Know If I'm Eligible For Graduation?

Each semester, Mid Michigan College reviews student records to identify students who have earned a credential during that term (based on completed and enrolled courses).

  • Students who are identified as potential graduates receive a notification in their Mid Mich Email. Degree(s), certificate(s), or training credential(s) are awarded unless a student declines to receive their credential. Instructions for declining are included in the email notification.
  • For various reasons, some students may not intend to complete their credential(s) at the end of that term, and the feedback form will allow students to decline their credential at that time. If those students are enrolled during the following semester, they will receive graduation notifications again when the process is next carried out.
  • Students who do not receive a notification, but believe that they are on schedule to complete the necessary requirements are able to request a second review of their records by emailing graduation@midmich.edu. If a student is planning to transfer credits to complete requirements, the transcript from the other institution must be received within two weeks after the end of the planned graduating semester.
  • After grades are submitted for the semester, the College verifies the completion of all degree requirements and adds that information to students’ transcripts.
  • In cases of an incomplete, students should finish the work well within thirty days of the end of the semester. If an updated grade is submitted for a required course after the thirty day mark, the degree can be posted, but will have to be dated for the end of the following semester.

General Requirements for Credentials

  • Complete (or be close to completing) courses and credit hours specified by your declared program of study. Any variance from the published catalog requirements must be formally approved.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Some programs require a certain minimum grade for some or all courses within that program.
  • Earn a minimum of 15 credit hours toward your associate degree or 6 credit hours toward your training credential or certificate at Mid. If you wish to include credit from other institutions you must have official transcripts sent directly to Registration & Records at Mid from your previous college or university.

Graduation FAQs

Graduation refers to the completion of coursework. Students do this at various times throughout the year depending on program requirements.

Commencement is the ceremony held for those who have completed associate degrees, certificates, or training credentials. Currently, Mid has one Commencement ceremony each May (after the winter semester). Students are eligible to participate in Commencement if they have graduated in the previous fall semester or have applied to graduate in the winter or following summer semester.

Graduating with honors is determined by cumulative (overall) GPA. A cumulative GPA of 3.500-3.899 denotes graduating with honors. A cumulative GPA of 3.900-4.0 denotes graduating with high honors. One-half of the credit toward your credential must be taken at Mid to graduate with honors or high honors.

Visit the Honors Convocation web area to learn more.

Yes, programs will be available at the Commencement ceremony.

Diplomas are mailed to you approximately 6-8 weeks after the completion of graduation requirements. Your mailing address is collected during the graduate identification process. If you have an address change, email graduation@midmich.edu.

Diplomas are not distributed at Mid's Commencement ceremony.

There is no cost for your original diploma.

Mid Michigan College will reissue diplomas for alumni who have lost or damaged a diploma, or those who have legally changed their names. Replacement diplomas follow the current diploma format. They are printed with the original graduation date, but with signatures of current College Officials.

Diplomas damaged in shipment or not received by the student will be replaced free of charge. Diplomas reprinted for any other reason will be subject to a $10.00 fee. Please note that you cannot receive a diploma if you have an outstanding balance due to the College.

To request a replacement diploma, contact Registration & Records at enrollment@midmich.edu or (989) 386-6659.

Graduation requirements for a degree, certificate, or training credential are based on requirements printed in the College Catalog.

Students have seven years to complete those requirements, given continuous attendance. Continuous attendance is defined as attending at least one semester per academic year. If the program requirements are altered in subsequent Catalogs, continuously enrolled students may choose to follow the new requirements.

Students cannot mix requirements from different catalogs. If a student takes longer than seven years to complete a program, the current requirements must be completed. If a student is not enrolled continuously, then the current requirements must be met. The College does maintain the right to shorten the seven year period for some programs, under certain circumstances, such as the complete discontinuation of a program.

Students may earn more than one degree, certificate, or training credential from Mid. However, extra totals of credits are required—fifteen additional credits for each additional associate degree and six additional credits for additional training credentials or certificates.

Financial Aid eligibility for a student ends as of the anticipated graduation date for an associate degree. Students who intend to continue coursework after this date should contact Financial Aid before registering for additional coursework.

Graduating students who have received Federal Student Loans are expected to complete Exit Loan Counseling.

There are several options available for obtaining your Mid transcript, including no-cost and low-fee options for different transcript delivery methods.
