You Are Enough- Megan’s Journey to Rewriting Her Story at Mid Michigan College

Megan Little is rewriting her story, and Mid Michigan College is proud to be part of her next chapter.

Student Megan Little

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Megan is pursuing a degree in Business at Mid. But her journey to college wasn’t an easy one. Growing up, higher education didn’t feel like an option. Her father faced job insecurity, and college was never emphasized at home. “I felt like I wasn't good enough to go to college,” Megan shared. “So I didn’t try as hard as other kids growing up.”

After high school, Megan found herself facing mental and financial struggles. “I had to set goals for myself to get out of the dark hole I kept finding myself in,” she said. “I knew something had to change.”

That change came through the Michigan Reconnect Scholarship, and Mid Michigan College made the decision easy. “Mid opened the door of opportunity for me. They always had an answer to every question. They helped me realize that college is for anybody who’s willing to work hard toward an end goal.”

Now thriving in her courses, Megan is grateful for the support and encouragement she’s found at Mid. “I love how the staff makes you feel like you made the right choice. My instructors are always quick to respond, engaging, and encouraging.”

One of her most memorable experiences was in a math course—traditionally her toughest subject.  “I struggled horribly with math in high school. I was terrified to be placed in an algebra course. But my instructor made it super easy and was so attentive to my questions. I realized I was stressing myself out for no reason—they really want to see you succeed.”

Even outside the classroom, Megan’s college experience has been transformational. “Mid has everything a university would have. They want you to be involved and give you the opportunity to be.”

Megan is determined to continue her education after graduating from Mid. Her goal? A bachelor's degree, a master’s degree, and ultimately a career in Human Resource Management. “I’ve been homeless. I’ve done homework in my car connected to local Wi-Fi. But I want others to know that whatever you’re going through, you are enough. You can pursue any dream, no matter how big or small.”
