Mid Michigan College Continues Commitment to Local Learners

Mid Michigan College continues to demonstrate its commitment to serving students and the community through significant, ongoing investments in its campus facilities.

Mid has two main locations, one in Harrison and the other in Mt. Pleasant. In 2021, Mt. Pleasant School District voters joined Mid’s In-District Service Area—contributing their tax dollars to the College and receiving the lower in-district tuition rate just as those from the school districts of Beaverton, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin, and Harrison have for many years.

Following a major renovation of the Harrison Campus four years ago, which resulted in more sustainable infrastructure and improved facilities, Mid is now embarking on an ambitious Campus Master Plan that includes additional improvements to the Harrison Campus as well as improvements to the College’s Mt. Pleasant location.

“As we continue to invest in our facilities and improve the educational experience, we maintain our focus on our students and their needs,” shared Scott Mertes, Provost of Mid Michigan College. “The recent renovations and the upcoming master plan reflect the College’s long-standing dedication to providing high-quality, accessible education for all in state-of-the-art environments.”

A Continued Commitment to the Harrison Campus

Four years ago, Mid Michigan College undertook a transformative renovation of its Harrison Campus. The project resulted in state-of-the-art classrooms, updated student spaces, and improved infrastructure designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s learners and ensure the sustainability of the Harrison Campus for years to come.

Key upgrades included modernized classroom technologies, expanded student areas, technology upgrades for skilled trades and welding labs, and enhanced spaces for collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. This investment has significantly enriched the student experience on the Harrison Campus, creating a dynamic learning environment that supports academic success and fosters community connections.

“Our renovation of the Harrison Campus was not only an investment in our facilities, but also a commitment to the future of our students and community,” said Mertes. “We are proud of the upgrades made four years ago and the impact they have had on our students’ ability to learn and thrive.”

New Investments in Harrison & Mt. Pleasant Begin Soon

To best serve students across the region, Mid Michigan College is kicking off an ambitious Campus Master Plan which will bring improvements to both the Harrison and Mt. Pleasant locations. The plan is focused on creating additional student spaces, improving campus wayfinding, enhancing accessibility, and providing students and the community with a more welcoming environment.

“As we kick off the master plan, we’re also embarking on renovations at the Morey Technical Education Center in Mt. Pleasant,” noted Mertes. “The facility is being upgraded to host a state-of-the-art Manufacturing Technologies Lab, 3D Printing Lab, and expanded Welding Lab.”

Morey Technical Education Center renovations are being funded by the State of Michigan, Mid Michigan College, and generous donors.

Creating Future-Ready Campuses

These investments represent Mid Michigan College’s commitment to remaining responsive to the needs of the students and families it serves, as well as its vision of cultivating a welcoming environment. As educational needs continue to evolve, Mid remains focused on providing resources that not only support student success but also strengthen its connection with the local community.

“Our goal is to create campuses that adapt to the needs of our students while maintaining a strong community presence,” said Mertes. “By investing in both Harrison and Mt. Pleasant, we’re reinforcing our commitment to accessible, high-quality education for years to come.”
