Aubriel Hayes (Ithaca), a Mid Michigan College Early Childhood Education (ECE) student, was recently awarded the 2023 Brian White Early Childhood Education Scholarship from the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children (Michigan AEYC).
"I'm so thankful to be receiving this scholarship. I've always wanted to work in the early childhood field since I was a little girl. I would watch my mom and grandma work with younger children and I wanted to be right beside them helping,” shared Hayes. “Now I'm achieving it, and truly excited for the opportunity to continue my education. My goal is to get my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development and Learning, and be able to play a role in growing little minds for the future."
The Brian White Early Childhood Education Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of former Michigan AEYC President, Brian White and his leadership in the classroom, as an administrator, and as an advocate for children and families and those who work with them.
The scholarship is meant to recognize and encourage students enrolled in associate degree programs who choose a career in early childhood education, working with, and on behalf of young children birth through age 8, to take leadership positions in the field.
Hayes received a scholarship of $1000, a 1-year membership in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Michigan AEYC, a complimentary Michigan AEYC Early Childhood conference registration and one night of lodging, and an invitation to attend the Michigan AEYC Annual Membership meeting at the annual Early Childhood conference.
“Aubriel is an exceptional student who has shown insight and dedication toward the education of young children and I’m excited to see what the future holds for her in this rewarding field,” noted Julie Ehle, ECE Program Coordinator at Mid.
Mid offers several Early Childhood Education pathways, including a career-ready certificate that can be completed in just two semesters, an associate degree that can be completed 90%+ online, and a transfer-focused option that connects seamlessly with Central Michigan University’s Early Childhood Development & Learning program.
